Client:
A 2,600-employee organization.
The Challenge:
After partnering with the Access companies, the Client was able to build a health fund surplus of nearly $5 million (due largely to the effectiveness and proficiencies of the health plans). Some of this surplus was available to utilize for program enhancements to promote wellness and disease prevention.
Our challenge was to design and implement programs that would have a positive impact on both the employees and the employer.
Programs Utilized:
We implemented the following programs:
- LifeStyle Advantage (fitness center network at discounted rates
- Little Changes, Big Results (didactic/classroom wellness and nutrition classes)
- Employee Assistance Program (family counseling resources)
- Healthy at Heart (cardiovascular disease management program)
- “Reduce Your Cardiovascular Risk”
- “Diabetes Control Network”
- Member Education Programs based on the top ten diagnoses
- “Know Your Numbers” Diabetes Education Programs
- “Know Your Healthy Steps” Diabetes Education Programs
- Free health screenings, preventive education, flu shots, free glucose meter upgrades
Results:
- Inclusive of stop loss reimbursements that we recouped for the client, the health plan paid out $2.7 million dollars less in paid claims for the 2005-2006 fiscal period compared to the previous fiscal period.
- The client reduced by 5% the monthly contributions/premiums for their health plan members—in the face of national double digit medical inflation.

- Prime Wellness Online Wellness Center
- “Benny Card” (debit MasterCard) to track utilization/spending and provide further value to client’s members for their flexible spending account (FSA)
